About Our Basset Rescues
Where do the bassets for adoption at BHRA come from? The basset hounds we rescue come from a number of places and situations including shelters, owner surrenders, or unclaimed strays.
How can I be sure the basset I am adopting is healthy? Every incoming basset visits one of our veterinarians who generously offer discounts for their services to BHRA. While at the vet, the basset receives a full check-up, vaccinations, and heartworm test. Individual hounds are treated for heartworm if they are positive, as well as other medical challenges that may arise during their examination.
Where do your basset hounds stay while they are waiting for adoption? After complete medical evaluation and treatment, each dog is placed in a loving foster home until a “furever home” can be found.
About BHRA
Why do you charge adoption fees and how are they set? BHRA is a non-profit organization and our financial survival is due solely to adoption fees and supplemented by donations. Because we try to keep our fees low, often the amount you pay does not cover vetting costs.
What percentage of fees and donations go towards caring for the basset hounds? 100% of funds received go strictly to the care and vetting of these precious hounds; no administrative fees are claimed.
